Millard Announces State Grant Funding of Nearly $214,000 for Fire and EMS Companies in the 109th Legislative District
BERWICK - Volunteer fire and emergency response organizations in the 109th Legislative District (covering most of Columbia County) have been awarded nearly $214,000 in grants from the state, Rep. David Millard (R-Millville) announced today.

“Our community benefits immensely from the steadfast volunteers with our fire companies and EMS services who give so much,” Millard said. “These state grants help to support them in their mission to protect our neighborhoods, homes, and loved ones.”

The grants were awarded to 19 fire and ambulance companies in the 109th Legislative District. The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner. All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not general fund tax revenue.

Legislation approved last year increased yearly funding for these grants to $30 million (up from $25 million). Grants may be used to assist with construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reducing existing debt.
